WARNING: hi-fi lovers stay far away from these recordings, all Trane addicts wellcome. we must consider 4 categories, USA or European issues, vinyl or digital. there are hundreds of different issues published from the 70's on, quality of recording varies a lot, sometimes two different issues of the same material are quite different in quality, so everyone is invited in underlining the best possible choice. as I fell hooked by Coltrane in 1968, my research for these kind of records began 5 decades ago and the chase is on today. thanks to jazzhead who expressed interest in this subject last night and suggested an issue I didn't know, I gladly take off. SECOND WARNING: I'll try to be the most accurate reporting all known data BUT I'm sure that more than something will be missing: please get in and add what I ignore yet.
title: UNISSUED CONCERT IN GERMANY 1963 PART ONE label: JAZZ GALORE cat#: 1001 country of origin: ITALY recording date and place: NOVEMBER 4th 1963; STUTTGART, WEST GERMANY
classic Trane quartet, mono recording, soft white cover with a black and white picture of John sitting on a chair playing tenor. this is the last day recording of the European tour, produced by Norman Granz, begun October 22nd.
Tracks:
AFRO BLUE (6:05) THE PROMISE (7:10) I WANT TO TALK ABOUT YOU (10:20) MY FAVORITE THINGS (18:35)
from the same concert, to be published in a second volume:
IMPRESSIONS (28:00) EVERYTIME WE SAY GOODBYE (5:55) Mr. PC (34:50)
the producer, an Italian collector named Gianfranco Cascella, for some reason was prevented to publish part two. The track I Want to Talk About You is divided into two parts: it begins as last track of side one and goes no as first track of side two with a beautiful cadenza leading to the end.
I've no access now to my digital Trane which is in my office so I can't confirm digital issues of this concert, especially for tracks not present on this issue.
RECORDING QUALITY: very good, highly advisable

well done jazzhead: these two clips show the whole concert, in the right order of playing. there's a double CD, John Coltrane complete live in Stuttgart 1963, that can be the source for the clips. unofficial release obviously, on Domino Records 891205, published 2010. two copies for sale in Discogs BUT: one is without booklet, and one from Brazil at $ 205.00 !! I'm interested but the price looks very high. no other copies, till now, for sale. I'm gonna search for me and for you: the first who finds it please reports here.

Had a look on Google/Amazon.com and it says that 6 used copies are available. Doesn't mention Domino Records. Ais is mentioned. Checked AllMusic and they show this Ais / Domino / Domino Jazz 891205: www.allmusic.com/album/complete-live-in-stuttgart-1963-mw0002059912/releasesThere's also a 12 page booklet: www.amazon.com/Complete-Live-Stuttgart-1963-Coltrane/dp/B0043FWXNAAmazon description: "2010 two CD release containing the classic John Coltrane Quartet's complete long unavailable concert in Stuttgart on November 3, 1963. Two of the songs, 'Impressions' and 'Mr. P.C.', totaling more than an hour of music, have never previously appeared in any format. We have completed this set with the only known track (also previously unissued) from the concert given by the same formation at Salle Pleyel, in Paris, two days before the Stuttgart performance. Includes 12-page booklet." However, when you click '6 used', the image changes www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000064RAD/ref=tmm_acd_used_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=&sr=May be worth contacting a seller? Ignore that. Must be an old link. If you have a look on Amazon.com, John Coltrane complete live in Stuttgart 1963 doesn't show up.

Coltrane on vinyl, European recordings. BOOTLEGS
the following are not bootlegs but official recordings. Norman Granz had the rights (as producer) on almost all European Trane's recordings. he didn't a good job at all with hours and hours of taped music. for example this date had two concerts and usually Trane played some titles on both. here we have only 8 tracks, no doubles, presumably all others are lost. let's try some order.
JOHN COLTRANE THE EUROPEAN TOUR PABLO LIVE 2308-222 USA original published 1980 (but 1979 on label)
credited as presumably November 1962 on back cover, the recording took place the following year: October 22 1963 in Stockholm The Promise, I Want to Talk About You, Naima and Mr.PC. all these tracks, together with other four from the same concert, were published in a 7 CD box entitled Live Trane The European Tours, PABLO 7PACD-4433-2, released 2001
