Not quite right Spencer. Argo wasn't bought out by Cadet - it changed its name to avoid confusion with a UK record label called Argo. The change happened in 1965, not the 1970s. I had misremembered the Chess relationship with Argo: Chess didn't take over Argo, Argo was set up as a Chess subsidiary in 1955. Don't you just love these confusing label histories.
Ahmad Jamal was indeed a mainstay of Argo/Cadet. Other notable artists who recorded for the label included Ramsey Lewis, The Jazztet, James Moody, Ray Bryant, Lou Donaldson, Jack McDuff, Kenny Burrell and others...
