Does anyone know anything about a Sidney Bechet LP on Scepter Records (cat # 537, or SM 537 for elec. stereo). It appears to have been recorded between 1950 & 1957. Scepter was known and an R&B (The Shirelles, Chuck Jackson) and Rock & Roll (Louie, Louie) label and did not exist until the early '60's. So I'm wondering where the tracks originated, who plays on them, and is it any good. Bechet was still playing quite well into the early 60's. Any and all info is appreciated.

The above post on Bechet/Scepter was created by me. I'm having trouble registering onto this board. But I wanted to let you know it was from me.

What's the line-up on it? Let me know and I'll have a look to see off the Penguin Guide to Jazz covers it.
EDIT: I've been digging a little and if the Scepter LP you refer to is BECHET AND THE BLUES then it appears to be a 1966 compilation, but I can't find anything that details the provenance of the recordings.
If you just want some decent chronological compilations of Bechet in your collection you might be better off looking for the French RCA 'Black and White' series. I've got a few of them. They're cheap but dependable scholarly editions.
