I was wondering if anyone here had any tips or advice for removing sellotape/scotch tape from album covers? As the previous owner of this record had decided to reinforce the seams with tape. Alternatively should I leave it alone?

I know there are people who have had good luck with getting tape like this off, and they are sure to chime in. Alternatively, I usually just leave it. It still looks quite nice.

Thanks gregorythefish, am really on the fence about this one... It looks alright as you say, infact I'd actually forgotten that it was taped up but have recently noticed it getting a bit stuck to the polythene sleeve.

A lot depends on how sellotapohobic you are: I absolutely hate the stuff, will always try to lift it. It looks yellowed with age, a possibility that the adhesive has lost a lot of its grip.
Looking at this, I would start by trying to tease up a section of tape folded over on the back cover. If it tears the liner notes paper, you have not really lost anything. If you can get a section up as far as the edge of the cover, you will get an early sense of what happens when you try to continue to lift it off the cover art overlap. If it starts to lift the cover paper, you can decide whether to proceed or abandon the enterprise and cut your losses.
I had an album where a previous owner had taped the cover all around with duct tape. Whenever you looked at the cover, your eye was drawn first to the tape. After some thought, I ripped it all off, even though it exposed bare card underneath all around, it looked better to me despite the damage: it looked like a real album cover.

That looks as if it *may* have dried out and become sufficiently brittle to just lift off. Try what LJC says above (then you can blame him).
If not, leave it for another couple of years and it probably will. I had something recently on which the tape just fell off and yet last time I had tried to remove it I had to leave it. I usually put the more fragile jackets in a polythene outer bag with the record popped in behind the sleeve. Then you get to actually see the jacket while not having to touch it or risk causing further deterioration.
