Hello everyone I’ve recently bought a few LPs from Japan, including some lovely Blue Note first presses. I’ve noticed they often use the usual lingo like ‘RVG, DG, etc’ to describe their used records. But also some other things I’m not aware of, mainly this ‘GG’ lark. I wondered if anyone knows what ‘GG’ could possibly mean!? Any help most appreciated All the best, and happy collecting

I wondered if anyone knows what ‘GG’ could possibly mean!? Hi Hank Are they records pressed in US and shipped to Japan or pressed in Japan? Toshiba? King? Is "GG" an inscription on the records or mentioned in description of the record? I don't know what it means. microgroove.jp/bluenote-jpn/

welcome. no idea what GG means. best to ask them as it doesn't seem to be common parlance at all. may be common in japan.

I don't know what it means. microgroove.jp/bluenote-jpn/I also have no idea what GG could mean but I've found a couple of examples on the Japanese HMV Record Shop website:
◆LEE KONITZ/WITH WARNE MARSH(規格番号:1217)【ATLANTIC】 盤質B ¥9000+TAX 【 EX-/VG+)US-ORIG/黒ラベル/DG/B2キズ/GG/MONO/コーティングCvr.】
◆LEE MORGAN/PRESENTING(規格番号:BLP1538)【BLUE NOTE】 盤質B ¥22000+TAX 【 VG/VG)US-ORIG/LEX(片63RD,23付)/DG/GG/額縁】
Perhaps this could help better investigators or just guessers...

There's a list on Discogs with a few standalone mentions of GG

From our dear London Jazz Collector site: londonjazzcollector.wordpress.com/2017/10/24/savoy-records-ljc-vinyl-collectors-field-guide/"Example of how our friends in Japan catalogue the features of individual titles, in the manner of Cohen for Blue Note. So, in other words, to paraphrase Lewis Carroll (or was it Grace Slick): "Go ask Andrew....."

Reply from the London Jazz Collector:
GG/____ is not an industry-recognised abbreviation like WOL and WOC. It relates to the form of the company postal address on the back cover, but it has no obvious meaning to me. You will have to get Disk Union or one of the other record stores in Tokyo’s Shibuya district or similar to explain.
