Wasn't this United Artists (and HMV in the UK) and not a Blue Note, jazzhead? Originally, yes, however "United Artists was bought by EMI in 1979, and subsidiary Blue Note Records reissued the album on CD in 1987. This contained more recordings from the same session: four previously unreleased works written for the session, plus two alternative takes. The order presented in this edition was that in which the songs were recorded. The sound quality of the original recording was improved for the 2002 Blue Note CD release by engineer Ron McMaster, using the original tapes and 24-bit remastering, adding clarity to the drums in particular. For this release, the first seven songs were arranged in their original order, with the other four songs and four alternative takes placed afterward, increasing the number of tracks to 15." Bravo! Well explained - I had completely forgotten about the CD reissue, and perhaps never in fact knew that it was on Blue Note.

Initial scenario was to mention vinyl releases only . That is why both MONEY JUNGLE and TIME LINES turn out to be beyond the scope. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the TIME LINES album by Andrew Hill was never released on vinyl.

Yes, â it's not fair. It's not our fault. We have no say in our own lives. We're living a fairy tale someone else wrote.â

Good question. POint of Departure - aAndrew Hill EVolution - GRachan Moncur Contours - Sam Rivers Out to Lunch - Dolphy Somethin' Else - Cannonball Adderley (because it offers the only means of smuggling both Miles and Adderley in scorchingly good form to one's desert island...) Tomorrow would probably produce a different list. For instance, it would pain me to leave behind the two volumes of Ornette at Golden Circle, Hutch's Dialogue, the other Sam Rivers LPs, Horace Silvers' Song for My Father and a Wayne Shorter or three... But that's why you said 'five', I suppose, rather than simply 'list'. Replace Evolution and Contours with Blakey's Moanin' and Joe Henderson's Mode for Joe. So many greats left out though. Rollins, Morgan, Mobley?

i'd appeal the decision to exclude money jungle to the officiating body of blue note on deserted islands, jazzhead, if i were you.

Alun, I'm not a vinyl purist, and this desert island may be equipped with a turntable, a CD player, a Blu Ray... whatever you want. If we decide to compose a separate list of Blue Note favorites on CD, it can be increased up to 10 items due to smaller dimensions of the disks. My CD list will be absolutely different because I've got many Blue Note masterpieces in this format only.

After many years of gradual replacement, I think I now only have one or two Blue Note items on CD. Mind you, I only have sixty or so BN recordings, I think, and the vast majority of these are 1980s/90s reissues, and some contemporary reissues -- whatever I have been able to find/afford. Perhaps the general idea should simply be "Blue Note music for a desert island" and people can choose whatever they want, in whatever format? And when they get to the desert island, they can make the best job they can of playing their music on whatever equipment happens to be lying around on the beach... I suppose it must be solar powered equipment? At this rate, this desert island will be better equipped than my home

Dialogue: Hutcherson Let Freedom Ring: McLean Midnight Blue: Burrell Our Man in Paris: Gordon Point of Departure: Hill
I will wish after a few days that there had been a Morgan record (Candy) and a Moncur (Evolution), but so it goes on this imaginary island.

yes, there are many fine morgan albums i will also regret leaving out, but i simply had to have my moncur. same with hutcherson.
pjd, do you like the "blue lights" albums? i find them to be rather magical, even standing out on blue note, and since you also chose a burrell, i thought i would ask.
