My UK dealer has just informed me of this. Even he is unclear about future production plans beyond this year, but has assumed they continue -- because MM's investment in its website and e-commerce facilities (referred to in the letter) wouldn't make sense otherwise. What *is* clear is that MM will no longer be using independent wholesalers/resellers for Europe. Now, that's bad news for us folks in theUK. I have just checked and buying a single MM33 direct from MM in theUS will cost me a total of $67 including international shipping/handling (about GBP44.00 at current rates -- i.e. GBP12.00 *more* than I was previously able to buy them for). Sadly, my days of buying MM33s -- whatever there future production plans -- are over. I shall miss them. Here's what I have heard regarding this matter: MM will continue to wholesale to independent record stores on the condition that those record will only be sold via in-person sales inside the store. MM will not sell to any store that will sell online. So if your record dealer is willing to sell the LPs strictly in-store then they will be able to buy the LPs directly from MM at wholesale. Cheer up, Alun things are not as dire as they may appear!

Spencer, that is interesting news. It may mean that I can buy in the UK (although probably not in my home city, I suspect, as the only independent store we have doesn't really major in jazz and I don't think would be likely to stock them). My regular dealer is an Internet seller and therefore would be ruled out - he does open to callers periodically but is over an hour's journey away from me... I find it hard to cheer up....

I sympathize with you. Hopefully, there will be an avenue for Jazz fans as yourself who are not based in the United States to be able to obtain MM titles you seek without going through the loops. My understanding is that MM is not in any way trying to cut anyone off from the music, that will not be sound business. They have more to gain by making sure everyone who wants a record gets it. The online sale thing affects retailers here in the United States as well, I've noticed that Elusive Disc no longer lists any of the six unreleased titles on their site, meaning they too are not allowed to retail them online.

I don't understand Facebook but I can barely find MM -- and I only see activity dated Dec 2013.... What am I missing?

in light of all the changes going on at MM recently, they launched a Facebook page as of yesterday: you have to search music matters jazz on Facebook.

Oh, I see. I'm obviously not doing it right. You may also like to know that MM has sent "cease and desist" orders to previous retailers with MM links on their websites.

Despite the scurrilous allegations by a poster over at the LJC homepage, implying that MM is not using AAA xfer on these BN reissues, the proof is in the pudding ladies and gentlemen. I have it from a credible source that some of the first batch of 33RPM LPS that MM reissued are now heading to extinction. The source revealed that there is just a few hundred of some of these titles floating around the market place.
Further proof is evident in the fact that Elusive Disc and MM themselves have now hiked the prices of these select titles from $39.99 to $59.99
Here are some of the titles affected:
Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers Moanin' John Coltrane Blue train Kenny Burrell Midnight Blue Herbie Hancock Maiden Voyage Cannonball Addereley Something' Else Eric Dolphy Out To Lunch Hank Mobley Out To Lunch
I have on good word that on some of these titles MM is down to less than 50 copies and licensing capacity has been maxed out; meaning MM has already pressed the contractually allowed maximum for these titles.
If these are not AAA why are people voting approvingly with their wallets? Answer: people know something this poster over at LJC homepage don't know.

Correction: Hank Mobley Soul Station. It would really be strange if Hank did make Out To Lunch

Spencer -- whose scurrilous accusations regarding MM sources? I must have missed that. EDIT: ah, I see. For God's sake, don't rise to the bait. It's pointless.
