What have you purchased and played the most in 2021? Something new, something off ebay, a rerelease, a lost album or a box set? Whatever it is, let us know!
My favourite jazz album of 2021 is Cosmic Transitions by Isaiah Collier & The Chosen Few.

I added 12 records to my collection in 2021. 11 are first issues, ten from 50s-60s, one contemporary and one is a reissue.still need to listen to two of them, so I can't give a judgment yet (A Love Supreme Live in Seattle and Lee Morgan Sextet BN 1541). odd enough but my preference goes to the reissue and to the most recent . Black Unity Trio Al-Fathiah and Matthew Halsall Salute To The Sun. the first is from 1968, Free Jazz by an unknown (to me) trio. the second is the very first issue with clear vinyl by British musicians led by trumpeter Halsall.

There's a guy on Youtube who goes crazy both about "Black Unity ..." and - "Bitches Brew"! If I am not mistaken, the latter is not your brew of tea, is it? (I have always appreciated it)

no, it's not correct. I do love Bitches Brew. actually my interest/love for Miles stops with Jack Johnson, although I have most of his after 1970 recordings on cd.

I have spent a lot of time this past year focused on collecting all of Miles’ studio recordings from his first album as leader to the beginning of the Columbia years, in their original LP release form. This was a bit of challenge as many of the tracks were originally released on 10” records, which were then re-released in various combinations with adoption of the LP format - but it’s been a lot of fun too, hearing all of this wonderful music. Over and over again I am astonished at the incredible body of work Miles produced throughout his career.

When I say original LP release form, it certainly doesn't mean I have been able to acquire first pressings of the original old albums - just mean the original format, without added "bonus tracks" etc etc.

I have been doing the same thing over the past five or six years and have around 30 LP's concentrating on his records up to and including In A Silent Way after which I'm not so interested. My favourite period is from the Prestige era until the mid 60's though it's not in original format I have The Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions box set from Craft which sets out in chronological order his Prestige Quintet recordings over 6 LP's.
I have a Mobile Fidelity Relaxin' With and an early OJC Cookin' With to compare with the box set and sound wise they are very similar although I believe Craft used the old Fantasy/OJC remasters which did come fro the original Prestige Masters but where then transferred onto digital files. Personally as long as they sound good I'm not bothered what the source was.
