John Corbett - Vinyl Freak: Love Letters to a Dying Medium (2017). Just received this beautiful book from the UK. John Corbett was an author of the "Vinyl Freak" column in DownBeat for twelve years, from 2000 to 2012. Epigraph to the book is as follows: My roots are in my record player (Evan Parker).

Krin Gabbard - Better Git It in Your Soul: An Interpretive Biography of Charles Mingus (2016). Another good biography of Mingus in addition to Pristley's and Santoro's books. I've just started to read it and the test seems to me inventive and intelligent improvisation on the themes of Beneath the Underdog.

Gene Lees – Friends Along The Way. A Journey Through Jazz (Yale Univercity, 2003). Chapter 13 of the book is about Willis Conover, very important person for older generation of jazz lovers who lived behind so called Iron Curtain in 60s and 70s. All other people may remember him as emcee at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival 1958 (you have surely seen him in the well-known documentary Jazz on a Summer's Day (1960) about the event).

Peter Pettinger - Bill Evans: How My Heart Sings (1998). My name, Evans, is obviously Welsh, but my mother’s name (Soroka) and heritage is Russian. I have always hoped to visit Russia, to feel at first hand the roots of this part of myself.

No. Never. He explained the reason in the open letter to Chief Editor of Down Beat published in October 1980.

nick, You've been busy on the book front. Well done. Gustafsson is an interesting character but I do wish he wouldn't pull such stupid faces when he is photographed
