Hello all, New to the forum and was wondering what's the etiquette for helping identifying a tune? I have only a 30-second recording unfortunately, although I seem to recall the Prestige label and possibly Ron Carter on bass.
Is it acceptable to add an mp3 attachment here? Thanks, Ian

Of Ron Carter's rare appearances on Prestige, these are the only ones I have, or even know:
7677 Pepper Adams "Encounter" SVLP 2016 Coleman Hawkins "Night Hawk" 7843 Eric Dolphy "Where?" 7465 Bobby Timmons "The Soul Man"
I'm sure they're all on Youtube, so checking out the right track wouldn't be too hard (tempo, key, instruments). I hope that helps.

You can upload the sample you have to a filesharing site or YouTube, and post the URL/link here. Forum guests can follow the link, hear the sample, and venture an opinion, LJC

Thank you bassman, I'll look those up. In the meantime, I've uploaded the clip to YouTube:
I wish I had more of it, appreciate it's a long shot!

Thank you bassman, I'll look those up. [ ... ] It's none of those. For a while, I thought it could be Ron Carter and Roy Haynes on a Jaki Byard record. But it wasn't. The hunt goes on ...

is there any additional context you can provide, iant? i'll admit it does not sound like ron carter to me, but he has surprised me before.
it also really does not sound like a prestige recording to me. the bass on the van gelder dates was never that crisp or treble-friendly, and van gelder also never had drums that low, i don't think. plus the soloing is a bit more modern than i'd expect for the prestige brand.
again, i could be wrong. perhaps it is on prestige and it is not a van gelder date.

Very well observed, Gregory. Buster Williams came to my mind, but it's not him. BTW, can anyone handle Google Sound Search? I am not very much into downloading apps I never use.

Thanks for all the input so far. I only have this clip, as it was from a jazz mix tape done ages ago. Prestige and Ron Carter were all I can remember from the time, although I may just be thinking of something else entirely (very possible!). I did check out some Jaki Byard stuff, but didn't come across anything.

Buster Williams is a good guess.
Shazam returned no results, which is not a good sign. I'm somewhat out of ideas here.

That sounds like a Chick Corea track to me with Miroslav Vitouš on bass. Have a listen to Matrix on Now He Sings, Now He Sobs.

Again, thanks for the input everyone. Been through a bunch of Chick/Miroslav stuff but to no avail. Finding some great music in the process, so not all bad!

So it's him after all! Well done, iant.
