it sounds extremely new. the horn parts and heavy snare drum emphasis especially.
i tried shazam. first, it gave me an absurd electronica song that wasn't even close. the second two times, it was not able to find a result. strange.
i'd be amazed if the song wasn't from this century. i'd bet twitter could help.

Thanks Gregory. I also think the song must have been recorded somehow in the late 90s to mid 2000. It sounds old, but is still played in a modern way. I've played through thousands of jazz records trying to identify the song, but to no avail.

I'm interested now. What context did you find it in? That might provide some clues.

I'm interested now. What context did you find it in? That might provide some clues. A friend of mine had a movie DVD in the late 90s or between 2003 and 2006. The movie was relatively boring, it was about a saxophone player who played from time to time in a bar, which was also his regular bar. I think it was about a murder of a woman that he was investigating. He lived alone in a small apartment with his jazz records and his record player and always put something on for himself. Unfortunately, I can't remember the plot exactly, as I said, the movie was boring. The actor could have been Alec Baldwin, but there is no film known to me about it, or the film was not released further (because flop). At this time I had digitized the first song (at the beginning of the film) when he was in his apartment and put on the record for relaxing. Unfortunately, I have no more information about it and the DVD is long gone.

regards Dietmar It could be John Medeski (organ) of Medeski, Martin and Wood. John Scofield (guitar) has worked with those guys and vice versa. Just a guess.

If it existed in any format outside the DVD you mentioned, someone would have tracked it down. But we will keep on trying.
My first thought was something in the vein of Howard Roberts or George Benson but more modern, especially the drums. Medeski and Scofield is not a bad idea, but who's playing the vibes? Dave Samuels? Organ plus vibes has happened before (Jack McDuff & Lem Winchester, Barbara Dennerlein & Wolfgang Lackerschmid, even Joey DeFrancesco & Bobby Hutcherson) but is still a rather unusual lineup.
Where are all those movie freaks when you need them?
