So does that mean you don't want to participate? I assume you already have all of the Strata-East you need
I should add that i think that ship has sailed anyway. How much more can M'Boom sell for anyway?

yeah, there are a couple more I am looking out for but nothing outrageous. I've actually purged some of them, including a few high-dollar ones (i.e. Erotica Suite).

I'm pretty much interested in Dick Griffin and the couple of Clifford Jordan efforts and perhaps Shamek Farrah First Impressions, but I wouldn't turn away many of them if I found them at a local shop.

Labels however seem to switch from the 10014 zip code to 10010 starting with Gil Scott-Heron Winter In America (SES-19742)? Can anyone confirm?
Well I can confirm myself this is incorrect. Winter In America has the 100014 zip.

I've simplified the process as I believe we should be able to spot a first pressing based on the label style and address/zip code. I've added a couple more categories, but we can see where this gets us. Send me a DM if you'd like a copy of the spreadsheet (or you can easily create one yourself). If you can send it to me when you’re complete I'll start compiling the information.

Wondering if there is any update on this thread. At a minimum, how can you tell a modern era (90s+) repress from an original? The labels look very similar and there no bar codes on the jackets. any help woul dbe appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm not finding a lot of pictures of the reissues, but it looks like the they are missing the address information (or at least the zip code 10014/10010) on both the label and back cover.

originals have tip-on jackets whereas reissues have the standard two-piece modern jacket you encounter on almost every new record.

i lot of the reissues also have fatter middle sections where a deep groove would be. the shamek farrah reissues has this.
BUT there are not so many modern reissues, and most SE albums had only one run back in the day, other than the few with cover changes.

I just got a copy of Billy Harper's Capra Black. It looks original to me but I'm not an S-E expert. What distinguishing features should I be looking for?

The early copies have the address/area code under the logo on the label. There are variations of the label (white vs black/white) and a few different zip codes, but at least if you have that you probably have an early copy. Also as Clifford has mentioned previously the originals have tip-on jackets.

I've got two cases here I'd be interested to get some input on ... First is a copy of Clifford Jordan Glass Bead Games I picked up last week. It's certainly a vintage pressing - hand-etched matrix and labels match the original (including the outer ring), record 2 even has deep groove side 2. But the cover is laminated, while most copies I've seen pictures of look like they're matt card. Cardstock does match other 70's gatefolds I've seen and it has the tip-on construction rather than one/two-piece construction typical of modern gatefolds. Maybe two versions exist? Second is a bit more confounding: a copy of Shamek Farah First Impressions, again with hand-etched matrix and original labels, but cover with two-piece construction instead of tip-on. Judging by the wear and cardstock the cover does seem vintage though.
Pretty sure neither are reissues from later decades at any rate; both have labels and deadwax etchings matching the one other Strata original I have (Winter in America). Plus I picked up a reissue of Clifford Jordan In the World by accident last year and the matrix on that is machine stamped rather than hand-etched, and label rings and cardstock are quite different (though the cover is actually tip-on!). Could post pictures later when I get home ...

Cellery, what do the labels look like? I don't believe that the OG Glass Bead Games is laminated. It should also read "A PRODUCT OF STRATA-EAST, INC., N.Y.C. 10010 under the logo on the label. The Farrah should have the same info on the label. That's an awesome album by the way. I have the 80/90(?) reissue, but would love an original.
