Thank you very much, Dottore. I've sent an email to you. Paul Haines (1933-2003) is a Canadian poet well-known to jazz community mostly for his librettos to Carla Bley's Escalator Over the Hill (JCOA, 1971) and Tropic Appetites (WATT, 1974).

Got that ESP catalog too, it's pretty sweet.
A facsimile of the Paul Haines book is included in the Ayler "Holy Ghost" CD set on Revenant.

A facsimile of the Paul Haines book is included in the Ayler "Holy Ghost" CD set on Revenant. Thanks for the info. I know the Revenant box but have only Italian Abraxas' The Complete Albert Ayler ESP-Disk' Recordings (4CD) set which contains neither booklet nor bonuses. Anyway, Dottore kindly provided me with the scan, thanks to him once again.

the revenant box is fabulous. i got into ayler right around the time it came out, and managed to grab a cheap sealed one from a record store employee who just wanted to get it off the shelf, not knowing it was supposed to cost a lot more.

Dottorjazz, I understand it was the preview copies numbering 200 which came with the booklet, correct? I have a test pressing which was packaged with the Haines booklet and the same painted sleeve as the preview copies. On the back, however, the sleeve is not numbered or signed. Is your preview copy numbered and signed? I have so far not heard of any signed and numbered copies. Attachment Deleted

as a rule, test pressing are never identical to a complete package for press or radio stations, so the absence of # and signature is more than logical. if you you go back on this same thread (pag. 3), I've posted pics of this mysterious issue, mine with no # or signature, other with number but no signatute, other with signature but no number. GTF used the term "circus" for ESP records. your copy is very rare indeed, congrat.

So a copy of Spiritual Unity without the serial no. Line but has a booklet has to at least be a latter pressing, correct?

GST: it is not necessarily. it just means it is not a pre-release promo.

Thanks GTF. I just got mine in. The red paint on the cover seems smear really easily. Anyone else have this issue?
