that's what I thought but the listing of addresses published up here is not completely useful "1st) 180 Riverside Drive, NY NY 10024 : ESP-1002 (1964) -- ESP-1028 (1966)". at least 1012 and 1017 were never published on 180 Riverside Drive.

I just saw the Ayler documentary online. Very powerful and interesting. I highly recommend it. I've actually started listening to him now, and he created such penetrating, soulful music. Very emotional and profound. I will probably end up buying "Spiritual Unity" before long.

frederik: have fun figuring out the first pressing on that one! as near as I can figure, there are two pressings likely to be first, and i will grab whichever i can when it comes along.

Greg: As I understand it the 1st pressing should have the brown cover with the numbered back (this a pre-release), and red labels. The 2nd issue is the red and white cover with the red labels (this is the original, stock release). The artsy handwritten labels are a later issue, I believe. Could anyone confirm this? Dottore maybe?

Ok, so the first label of "Spiritual Unity" is red, the second is also red, and the third is the artsy handwritten one?

with EspDisk I'm never sure. both red and drawing labels bear 180 Riverside Drive address. I don't know if more than 200 red label copies have been printed so some of them could be used with second cover (burgundy rather than red). then the final drawing label. any thoughts?

Right, they weren't exactly sequential in catalog either so there's that to factor in.

at least 1012 and 1017 were never published on 180 Riverside Drive. How do you know that, Dottor? Is it just an exhaustive search that never turned them up, so statistically likely? I wonder if anything can be said definitively about ESP. The records I buy and seek on ESP are the first pressings as near as I can figure from various sources, but that link has never let me down yet, unless one counts the assertion that the doodle-label is the first pressing of Ayler's "Spiritual Unity"

Dottorjazz is correct on 1012 and 1017.
First issue of Spiritual Unity has black standard text on a red label.

GTF "I wonder if anything can be said definitively about ESP". no, it can't. since late sixties, I've been attracted by Esp-Disk. I've collected most in my musical interest and, having encountered so many differences in labels and addresses, I've been following thousands records in order to understand which was the real first. many dowels are to be found yet. the most enigmatic one is Bells. I think I can't be wrong to affirm there are at least more than fifteen different editions. but, which one is the real first? about Bells, it's not uncommon that stereo records are matched with mono covers, the opposite too. with no assurance anyway, I've been searching for this edition for years. I've seen this one three times only in the last 60 years. $ 1091,00 Attachment Deleted
